Dear Managers, have you ever considered that the productivity & satisfaction of your employees may depend on your mindfulness practice? “Mindfulness is the ability to know what is happening in your head at any moment, without getting carried away by it” - Dan Harris
Mindfulness allows you to become aware of the workings of your own mind. It throws light on the internal lters that impact your perceptions & consequently, the decisions you make. As a manager, once you learn to keep the said lters in check, you become more accommodating and willing to see & understand other's perspectives.
As a mindful manager you notice what is happening in your workplace without evaluating or analysing. You will take in the information but not react to it. You will approach your work & employees without judgements or preconceived notions.
“I think mindfulness was the best thing that happened to me. From helping me deal with stress, to connecting better with my team, to just everyday life - What a difference it makes. Thank you for introducing me to it.” - A client who heads the operations team in a top MNC.
When you hold that coffee cup in your hand, take a moment to notice where you are , how your body feels. Try to feel the sensation of the cup in your hands & the aromatic smell of coffee. It's ok if your mind wanders away, try and bring it back to the coffee.
When you learn to listen instead of waiting for your next chance to speak, you can get many positive outcomes such as receiving valuable feedback & new ideas from your team. So ask yourself, when was the last time you made an effort to listen to what your employees had to say?
Try and apply mindfulness to tasks that you may not particulate enjoy. For example when you are getting late for a meeting but are stuck in trafc, instead of cribbing about it, take this moment for yourself & become present. Listen to a song you love or perform a visualisation meditation
Tweak the way you experience meditation. Instead of just sticking to your morning meditation routine, try it out during the day for just few seconds at a time. Take a deep breath & check in with your thoughts & emotions, notice your breath and see if you feel any tension in any part of your body.
At the end of the day, pen down your thoughts
about your work day to see what you've
accomplished & what you've missed; what
was done right & what could've been better.
The rise of mindfulness in today's corporate world is a welcome phenomenon. The practice is
helping people manage stress more effectively, connect with coworkers & subordinates better &
improve productivity & creativity by leaps & bounds
